Who am I?

I'm Sam McKay, a Full Stack Engineer, Founder/CEO of McKaypable and head of the Fort Collins chapter of Rocky Mountain AI Interest Group. My background in Full Stack Development and years of experience building integrated software have allowed me to work across a wide range of technologies, including JavaScript, TypeScript, React, Node.js, Next.js, Python, and Agentic Coding models.

But for me, software development has always been more than just writing code. I'm fascinated by the ways technology can either open doors for people or, unintentionally, create barriers. This is what led me to become passionate about accessibility and disability-driven development.

I founded McKaypable because I believe accessibility should be a prerequisite, not an addition. I want to help developers and organizations see their products from a new perspective and build technology everyone can enjoy.

    Throughout my education and career, I've had the opportunity to work on many projects; from building websites and applications to creating accessible interfaces for people with disabilities. Here are some of my most notable projects:

      Start With Who image

      An AI-powered learning platform for Newton Institute that uncovers personal insights for every student. It offers course management, public profiles, and private or group chats.

      Noconet Sign In

      Noconet Sign In image

      A sign-in system for members of Noconet, a non-profit designed to help people in Northern Colorado find job opportunities. The previous google sheet was inefficient, so I created a system that is user-friendly.

      Bidder Faster Stronger

      Bidder Faster Stronger image

      A decentralized bidding platform for NFTs that connects through MetaMask. It offers realtime bidding, a live leaderboard, and clear results showing who wins each NFT.

      Gone Fishing

      Gone Fishing image

      An Alexa-powered family board built on AWS, with an email-enabled UI. It let us leave each other messages, with a visual cue showing when one or more of us had left the house.

      Tower3Defense

      Tower3Defense image

      A VR tower defense game built with Unreal using their blueprint system. It features multiple levels of increasing difficulty, unique enemy types, an intuitive UI, and an upgrade menu.

      DNDBuddy

      DNDBuddy image

      An Electron app that helps Dungeons and Dragons players manage their characters. It features a locations for players to store their character information, an inventory system, a shop, and an import/export feature.

      Language Encoder

      Language Encoder image

      A language encoder that converts English text into a fictional language called Anterian. It uses unique rules to transform letters, prefixes, and suffixes, creating a language intended for use in my fictional world of Antera.

      Hermes Integration

      A Hermes agent integrated with the messaging platform known as Discord. There are several channels that serve a variety of functions to make daily life easier. The AI News page of this website pulls from the Hephaestus channel.
